I am chomping at the bit for the rain to stop so I can wear my cute sandals again! As I was walking through the Nordstrom shoe department, I was suppressing those “I MUST have them ALL” thoughts. So, here’s a few shoe tips for spring.
First, give yourself a great pedicure. If you don’t think that people notice, you are mistaken!
Second, in the shoe department, less is more. Bargain shoes are no bargain unless you were lucky enough to find those fabulous Pliners on sale in your size! Reserve bargain purchases for those super trendy “fun” shoes or theme shoes for a party!
As far as body types, here are a few tips to make you look and feel your best!
Everyone over the age of fourteen should avoid very chunky black rubber platforms. A streamlined wedge is much more flattering to every leg! If you are petite, the perfect heel is 2-3 inches as this will lengthen your proportion without throwing your center of gravity forward. If you are curvy, depending on your height, stick with 2-3 1/2 inches and choose a sleek sculpted or stacked heel over a needle-thin heel which will make you look out of proportion.
Do you love ankle straps, ankle ties and ankle high boots? I know that I do. Be very careful when wearing them with either skirts or this season’s shorts. They will break the line of your leg and make your calves appear thicker and your ankles appear larger than they are. Unless you have very thin ankles and calves, opt for mules, pumps, sandals or ballet flats with your shorts and skirts this season.
The trend colors are really great this season. However, the indispensibles that you must have are expensive black pumps, good leather sandals (I am a big fan of the muted metallics) and leather or suede in neutral colors. Navy is back in a huge way, brown is still popular and khaki is all over the place. Animal prints, brocades and polka dots and plaids are also big this season.
Before you walk out the door, take a moment to take in the full effect in the mirror. If your instinct is that style is not working, follow your instinct!
